Not all basement water problems begin at the foundation walls. Many start beneath the floor, in the drains and pipes you never see. A damaged sewer line, aging water service, or missing backwater valve can cause unexpected flooding, costly repairs, and serious disruption to your home.
As an extension of our waterproofing and underpinning work, AquaMen provides licensed drain and plumbing services that protect your basement from below. Whether you're dealing with a drainage problem or preparing for a basement renovation, our team handles the work from diagnosis to final inspection. Hence, you never have to manage separate trades.
Your main sewer drain carries wastewater from your home to the municipal sewer. In older GTA homes, these pipes are often clay or cast iron, and over decades they crack, shift and attract tree roots. The warning signs are hard to miss: slow drains, gurgling sounds, sewage odours and water backing up through a floor drain.
We repair and replace damaged sewer drains. When we're already excavating for waterproofing or underpinning, we do the drain work at the same time, so you pay for the digging once, not twice.
If you're finishing, lowering, or underpinning your basement, you must plan the plumbing before the concrete floor goes in. We install complete plumbing rough-ins for new bathrooms, laundry rooms and kitchenettes, including drain lines, vents and connections. When you lower a basement, the existing drains usually need to be lowered too. With one team handling both the structure and the plumbing, there are no gaps between contractors and no delays waiting on another trade.
You can't fix what you can't see. A sewer camera inspection lets us look inside your drain pipes and pinpoint cracks, blockages, tree roots, collapsed sections and other hidden problems, with no digging required.
We recommend a camera inspection before buying an older home, before a basement renovation, or after any backup with no clear cause. It tells us exactly what's wrong and where, so we can recommend the right repair, and you only pay for the work you need.
During heavy rainfall, overloaded municipal sewers can push wastewater back toward your home and up through your basement floor drain. A backwater valve stops this. It stays open during normal use, so wastewater flows out freely, and closes automatically when the sewer backs up, keeping sewage out of your home.
For most GTA homes, a backwater valve is the most effective protection against sewer-backup flooding. We install them to Ontario Building Code requirements and recommend adding an alarm, which lets you know when the valve closes so you can stop using water until the sewer clears.
Good news: backwater valves installed in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon may qualify for municipal rebates. See the details below.
Your water service line is the underground pipe that brings fresh water from the municipal supply into your home. In many older properties, it is undersized, corroded, or past its service life, leading to low water pressure, discoloured water, and an unreliable supply.
AquaMen replaces and upgrades aging water service lines to restore strong, reliable water flow, especially important if you're adding a basement bathroom or a secondary suite. When we combine the upgrade with waterproofing, excavation, or underpinning work, we do it in one visit, with less disruption to your yard and schedule.
The Basement Flooding Protection Subsidy Program offers up to $6,650 per eligible property. It covers up to 80% of the cost of backwater valves (up to $1,600 per valve, for up to two valves), plus sump pumps, battery backups, and a home plumbing assessment.
Peel Region offers a rebate of 60% of the cost of installing a sanitary backwater valve, up to $1,500 including tax. Mississauga homeowners connecting a backwater valve to the storm line can also apply for the City of Mississauga's separate basement flooding prevention rebate.
These programs require a building permit, a properly licensed contractor, a passed municipal inspection and detailed, itemized invoices. AquaMen holds the required licenses, arranges the permit and inspection, and provides the documentation you need to submit your claim with confidence.
Effective basement protection goes beyond the foundation walls. Drainage, sewer connections and water supply all affect how well your basement performs and how long it stays dry.
With waterproofing and underpinning at the heart of our expertise, AquaMen brings your entire basement project together under one experienced, licensed team.
